Bio:
Dr. Tyrone Toland is Professor of Informatics in the Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems, where he also serves as the Department Chair. Dr. Toland earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science in computer science applied mathematics from the University of South Carolina Upstate (Spartanburg). He has extensive experience in systems development from industry. Dr. Toland teaches courses in database design, data warehousing, programming, interoperability and security. His research interests include web/big data analytics, database security, cyber security and cloud computing. He is a member of several associations, including the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Dr. Toland is a Graduate Assistant in Areas of National Need Fellow and the first African American to receive a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of South Carolina.
