Bio:
Dr. Michele Covington is Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Women’s Studies. Dr. Covington earned her PhD in Sociology with a Crime and Deviance concentration from the University of Central Florida, her Masters in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina, and her Bachelors in Sociology with a Criminal Justice emphasis from Lander University. Dr. Covington is a former law enforcement officer, holds a graduate certificate in Crime Analysis, and has received Department of Homeland Security Anti-Terrorism training. She has received multiple research grants and her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as The American Journal of Criminal Justice and Violence & Victims. She teaches courses on policing, violence, homeland security, criminal justice ethics, and research methods, and her research interests involve violence, policing, firearms, crime prevention, and qualitative methods.
