Dr. June C.D. Carter is professor of Spanish and director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of South Carolina Upstate. She earned a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literature at the University of Washington. She teaches Spanish language, Latin American culture and literature, and U.S. Hispanic literature. She has done post-doctoral work in Mexico and Costa Rica. Dr. Carter is author of many articles, a presenter at professional conferences, and co-editor of Jose Agustin: Onda and Beyond, University of Missouri Press. She is the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Bank of America Excellence in Teaching and Advising, South Carolina Foreign Language Teachers Association Outstanding Foreign Language Teacher of the Year, the Cervantes Award from SC American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the 2017 Faculty Excellence in Service Award. She has served as president of regional and state foreign language associations.
